Installation from RPM

This chapter describes the installation of Pgpool-II from RPM. If you are going to install from the source code, please check Section 2.2 .

2.10.1. Installing RPM

Pgpool-II official RPMs can be obtained from https://www.pgpool.net/yum .

For RHEL and its derivatives do following once:

    dnf install https://www.pgpool.net/yum/rpms/4.2/redhat/rhel-8-x86_64/pgpool-II-release-4.2-1.noarch.rpm

Then:

    dnf install pgpool-II-pg13

pg13 means PostgreSQL 13 . Pgpool-II needs PostgreSQL 's library and extensions directory. Since the directory paths are different in the particular PostgreSQL versions, You must choose appropriate RPM for your PostgreSQL rpm installation. We also assume you are using PostgreSQL community rpms . Optionally you can install:

    dnf install pgpool-II-pg13-debuginfo

which makes it easier to retrieve debugging symbols from the core or the backtrace. We recommend to install it. There is an optional package for developers.

    dnf install pgpool-II-pg13-devel

This installs header files which developers are interested in.

On all the PostgreSQL servers you need to install:

    dnf install pgpool-II-pg13-extensions

2.10.2. Configuration with RPM

All the Pgpool-II configuration files live in /etc/pgpool-II . Please refer to Section 3.3 to see how to set up configuration files.
